On May 5 in Yamagata Prefecture's Sakata City, a 78-year-old man who had gone out for wild vegetable gathering and was missing was found dead with multiple injuries to his head and both arms. Immediately after the body was found, an adult bear (about 1 meter long) appeared from nearby grass and was shot and killed by local hunters; police are investigating the possibility of a bear attack.
