Shibata Castle was jolted by a black bear sighting in Sugaya on April 6, 2026 at 20:10, when the animal moved from the Sugaya Community Center parking lot toward the hills to the west. Another close call came in Tagai on March 29, 2026, when a bear was seen in the mountain woodland near homes, about 100 meters southeast of the Tagai bus stop and about 200 meters from nearby houses.
