There have been multiple bear sightings in Kyoto Prefecture: on April 26 at about 05:30 a.m. a single bear was seen walking east near an intersection in Fukuchiyama City, Miwa-cho Oomi; at about 07:00 a.m. the same day a cub was reported on Route 178 in Ine Town; and on April 25 three bears believed to be a mother and cubs were seen along Kiyotaki River in Umegahata, Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City. Police are advising people not to shout, to retreat slowly, to avoid leaving food or garbage outside, and to report sightings to authorities.
