On May 9, 2026 at around 07:30, an woman in her 80s in Tsuchiya, Yurihonjo City, saw a bear approximately 1 meter long on private property; a woman in her 30s driving by reported a similar sighting at the same time. At about 08:30, a man in his 60s spotted a roughly 1-meter bear in a rice field in Sanjo, Yurihonjo City. Police have warned residents to be cautious.
