On Thursday, May 7 at around 6:30 p.m., in the Yabaki area, Takadota, Toyokawa Town, Kitakata City, near Ubadogawa, a witness (female in her 60s) was walking along the Ubadogawa when she spotted one bear (approximately 50 cm in body length) on the riverbank. She left the area immediately, so the bear’s subsequent whereabouts are unknown.

Later the same day at about 09:45, a roughly 70-cm bear, believed to be a cub, was seen in woodland in Torimiyama, Matsuyama-machi while a man was cleaning a drainage channel; no injuries were reported and police have urged residents to be cautious.

Around 1:33 AM on October 11, on a road in Kitakata City, Koshakami area, a witness viewing live security camera footage observed a bear about 1.5 m moving south on the west side of the road. A police officer at the scene also observed another bear about 50 cm on the south side of a private residence. The two bears joined, but their whereabouts afterward are unknown.
