While driving a car on a municipal road from west to east, I witnessed a bear about 70 centimeters long cross the road from south to north, then run up the embankment and head north. The distance between the car and the bear at the time of sighting was about 2 meters.

At around 08:50 on February 9, 2026, workers removing a snow-collapsed shed at a vacant lot in Towada Kemmanai (Aza Kashiwazaki), Kazuno City, Akita Prefecture, spotted a bear about 60 cm long. The bear moved to an adjacent parking lot, was seen by a city employee, and was captured by a hunting association member who had been called in.
