At around 22:40 on November 13, 2025, a security guard at Zuihoden spotted a single bear about 1 meter long climbing a tree on the grounds. The bear fled toward the west/Hirose River area when illuminated by a light; there were no injuries, and Zuihoden has closed the western portion of its grounds (about half of the roughly 10,000 m² site) until further notice.

A 13-year-old male pony named "Pochan" near the Hirose River in Yonekabukuro, Aoba Ward, refused for several days to approach the river on walks after a bear sighting in Mukaiyama 2-chome, Taihaku Ward at the end of October. Owner Mitsuko Nishikawa says when the pony refuses to go, she treats it as a sign of potential bear danger and avoids the walk.
