Around 18:00 on March 27, two bears (each about 60 cm long) were sighted in a residential yard in Mitsuwa, Inawashiro Town, Fukushima: one in a chestnut tree and one at its base. No notable damage has been confirmed; police are patrolling by patrol car and warning nearby residents.

On March 27 in Inawashiro Town, Fukushima Prefecture, separate bear sightings were reported. At about 10:45 a.m., a single bear about 1.0 m long was seen in a rice field in Yamagata; at about 6:00 p.m., two bears about 60 cm long were seen on and at the base of a chestnut tree in a residential property in Mitsuwa. No human injuries were reported, and police are patrolling and issuing warnings.

Around 9:05 PM on October 22, on the JR Ban'etsu West Line track area in Mitsuwa, Inawashiro Town, a train driver observed a bear about 1 m entering the track from the right side and colliding with the train. The bear was struck by the train. There were no injuries and the train service was not disrupted, but delays of up to 37 minutes occurred.

Around 8:00 p.m. on September 6, in the East Ha Stone area of Iwana River, Inawashiro? along the Ban-etsu Expressway southbound, a witness observed one bear (body length unknown) crossing from left to right (south to north) near the 102.7 km marker. Since it was observed while passing, the bear's subsequent movements are unknown.
