After being seen, the bears walked south through the brush; their subsequent movements are unknown.

Around 8:46 p.m. on Thursday, December 25, near the 115.1 km mark on the southbound lanes of the Tohoku Expressway (Ban-etsu Expressway) in Aizuwakamatsu City, a man in his 40s driving a standard freight vehicle was traveling in the first lane when a bear crossing from the left side to the right collided with the vehicle. The freight vehicle had only the male driver on board; no injuries. The bear died in the collision and was found near the scene.
