Around 22:00 on May 6, 2026, a single bear about 1 meter long was sighted near the intersection of the Sendai North Ring Road (Sendai Kita Kanjosen) at Kamiyatagari-Tatewaki, Izumi Ward, Sendai; it left toward the bushes. Police patrolled the area but did not find it afterward, and Izumitakeyama High School notified parents to be cautious by email.

Around 23:30 on the 3rd, a resident in the Kamo residential area of Izumi Ward, Sendai City, sighted a bear about 1 meter long walking on the road and reported it to the police. The bear left toward the woods of Chomeikan Park; because there are elementary and junior high schools nearby, police are patrolling and urging caution.
