On April 19 in a residential area of Aoba Ward, Sendai, one adult bear about 1.5 m long was sighted and was removed under the city's "emergency shooting" system. The bear stayed on condominium grounds for about 10 hours; a box trap failed, so authorities used a dart gun and an electric spear to dispatch it. No injuries were reported.

On the evening of March 17, 2026, two bears believed to be a parent and cub (approximately 1.5 m and 80 cm in length) were sighted on the riverside of the Hirose River under Reiyabashi in Aoba Ward, Sendai; both headed south and left the area. There were no reported injuries, the nearby Katahira-cho Elementary School was noted, and police patrolled the area to warn residents.
