Around 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, in a storage shed area within Nobonobihara, Yoneoka, Neshiocho, Kitakata City, an observer (a man in his 60s) while snow removal work on his home premises found bear tracks, followed the tracks and witnessed one bear curled up and sleeping inside a storage shed on the north side of his home (about 1.5 meters in body length). Later, at 1:40 p.m., it was captured in a box trap.

Around 10:00 on the 13th, a man in his 60s found a single bear about 1.5 m long sleeping in a storage shed on a residential property in Yoneoka, Atsushio-Kanocho, Kitakata City, Fukushima. The city set a box trap and the bear was captured around 13:40 and later reported to have been euthanized; there were no injuries or property damage.
