Around 14:00 on May 2, 2026, a man in his 60s in Yamaguchi Prefecture's Hagi City (Yatomi-shimo) spotted a bear about 1.0 m long on a city road. The man saw the bear walking about 20 meters ahead after stepping outside his entrance; the city and police issued warnings, patrolled by police car and planned further patrols the next day. No injuries were reported.
