Around 21:00 on April 6, 2026, a Asiatic black bear (about 1.5 m long) was sighted near the Route 4 overpass tunnel in Yahayada, Fukuyama-machi, Kōriyama. Subsequent sightings occurred across the city and riverside; the city and police used fireworks, water pumps and traps to try to disperse and capture the bear but failed. On April 8 in the afternoon the bear was culled by an emergency hunt near the Banetsu Expressway. No human or property injuries were reported.
