Around 12:30 on the 23rd, a person fishing on the opposite bank sighted two animals believed to be bears, each about 50 cm long, in the stands of pampas grass on the Abukuma River riverbed in Tamura-machi Miyota, Koriyama City, Fukushima. No damage has been reported; police are patrolling the area by patrol car and have provided information to Koriyama City to raise awareness.

On March 23, 2026 at about 11:05, two bears (approximately 1.5 m and 1.0 m) were seen wandering in a vacant lot at Moriya (Tateguchi), Sukagawa City, and moved into the forest. At about 12:25 the same day, two animals believed to be bears (about 0.5 m each) were spotted in the pampas grass along the Abukuma Riverbed in Tamurata Miyoita, Kōriyama City.
