Near the site of the former Kuroishi Kindergarten, a pair of footprints believed to be from an Asiatic black bear (Tsukinowaguma) was confirmed. The footprints measure about 15 cm long and 10 cm wide, and from the orientation of the toes and claws it is thought the bear headed north.

On the night of March 25, 2026, in the Chitose district of Kuroishi City, Aomori Prefecture, one adult bear (about 1 meter long) was reported sighted around 20:45 near the Chitose police box in Chitose 1-chome and again around 21:05 near a municipal housing garbage collection area. The next morning a local reported having found a large black dog with a loose leash and handed it to its owner, raising the possibility that the sighting was a mistaken identification; the city continues to maintain precautions.
