At Naganuma Orchard in Minasawa, Kaminoyama City, a bear was filmed at night in late October climbing a tree and eating nearly-ripe Western pears; about 2 tons of La France and other pears were damaged. The orchard had installed an electric fence but it did not prevent the damage, and box traps and other measures are now being strengthened.
