On November 5, former pro pitcher Norihito Kanaba reported encountering a mother-and-cub bear near Mukogawara Ballpark in Sendai's Izumi Ward; he contacted the ward office and police and announced he would change the practice location.

On 2025-10-03 at about 16:00 in the mountains of Kurikoma Iwagasaki, Kurihara City, 75-year-old Harue Shimizu, who had been picking mushrooms, was found bleeding and later confirmed dead. She had scratches on her face and body and claw marks were found on nearby trees; police say a bear attack is likely, and another woman in her 70s who was with the group remains missing.
