At around 06:50 on December 16, 2025, a 73-year-old man found a female bear (about 1 meter long) caught in a box trap for wild boar in a forested area of Ohiradate-no-uchi, Yamamoto Town. The town's wildlife damage control team responded and euthanized the bear after it began to struggle and damage the trap, creating a danger to personnel.

In December 2025, the town of Yamamoto captured a single bear in a mountain forest, the town's first such capture. In response, the town distributed about 780 bear bells to all elementary and junior high students and incoming pupils, handing them over at Yamashita Elementary School.
