In a mountain forest in Kawatsura, Yuzawa City, a 79-year-old woman was found dead with injuries consistent with an animal attack; police determined she had been attacked by a bear. She is believed to have gone mushroom picking and was found by searchers after her family reported her missing. Other bear-related injuries were reported elsewhere in the prefecture the same day.
