On the night of March 25, 2026, in the Chitose district of Kuroishi City, Aomori Prefecture, one adult bear (about 1 meter long) was reported sighted around 20:45 near the Chitose police box in Chitose 1-chome and again around 21:05 near a municipal housing garbage collection area. The next morning a local reported having found a large black dog with a loose leash and handed it to its owner, raising the possibility that the sighting was a mistaken identification; the city continues to maintain precautions.

The sightings occurred along the Asaseishi River near a large supermarket and restaurants; the bear was reported to have moved toward Higashi Park.
