Around 07:00 on December 16, in a forested area of Ohira, Yamamoto Town, Miyagi Prefecture, a bear about 1 meter long was caught in a boar trap set by a private individual; a hunters' association commissioned by the town dispatched and killed the bear on site. No damage from the bear has been confirmed; several sightings had been reported in the area earlier this year.
