At Takayama Castle, the most recent alarm came on May 2, 2026, when a tourist saw an adult black bear about 1 meter long moving toward the mountain inside the grounds of Hie Shrine in Shiroyama. That is the latest in a run of sightings around the castle hill, with bears also reported on April 8 in Kamoka-Machi, on April 6 in Shimokawara-Machi, and on March 29 near Kitagedo Cemetery in Sakyo-cho.
