On March 20 at around 17:00, a driver on a prefectural road in Tawa, Shibecha Town, spotted a cub about 1 meter long. The bear slowly crossed directly in front of the car and disappeared into the brush/forest on the right; there were no injuries or damage. Police are patrolling the area and warning residents to be cautious.

On November 17, 2025, staff at a ranch in Tawa, Shibecha Town, Hokkaido found a dairy cow with a serious wound about 40 cm long on its right leg. A veterinarian treated the animal, security cameras recorded the cow agitated in the early morning, and hunters are patrolling the area because a brown bear attack is suspected.
