At a poultry house on the grounds of a residence in Okuzura, Hinai, Odate City, about 300 Hinai chickens were found dead on the morning of December 10, 2025. Bear tracks were found around the coop, and the city and police suspect the chickens panicked from a bear approach and were crushed to death. A pet dog was also found dead nearby on December 9.

Around 06:00 on December 9, 2025, at a private residence in Okuzawa, Hinaimachi, Odate City, a woman in her 70s found her dog lying outside its doghouse with bite-like wounds on its belly and legs and bleeding; the dog was dead. Bear-like footprints were found nearby, and the Odate police warned the public that the dog may have been attacked by a bear.
