At around 07:30 on April 2, 2026, a single bear approximately 1 meter long was sighted from a car near a ridge in a rice field in Yuwa Kamigamura, Akita City; the sighting was reported to the Akita East Police Station. The bear later moved into the mountain forest to the south, and the nearest building was about 200 meters from the scene.
