On 2025-11-21 a single bear cub about 70–80 cm long was sighted in a field north of a nursery in Nanakitada, Izumi Ward, Sendai. Police and city officials attempted to capture it with a tranquilizer gun in the afternoon but the bear fled into nearby brush; they plan to set a live trap (box trap) on November 22. The nursery delayed arrival times and child handovers were temporarily affected by road restrictions.
