At about 16:15 on September 26, 2025, an woman in her 80s was attacked by a bear about 1 meter long while working in a field in the northwestern part of Kitaakita City, Akita Prefecture; she sustained head lacerations requiring 14 stitches to the forehead. She fired a warning pistol several times but was injured and transported by air ambulance to a critical care center.
