On Aug 25, 2024, around 6:30 PM, on the grounds of Iwami Chisuikan High School in Eto City, a female rugby team member sighted one bear during practice. A teacher reported it to the city on the morning of the 26th. No injuries. The bear was a cub, about 30–50 cm long. A female student saw the bear on the adjacent field across the net. The school had seen an adult bear on Aug 23. On the 26th, the school emailed all students and guardians to warn. The city plans to install security cameras and, in consultation with Shimane Prefecture, consider setting traps.
