Shortly after 9:30 AM on January 18, 2026, a cub about 0.5–0.6 m long was sighted on the grounds of a private residence in Takizawa, Shibata City. A resident spotted it when preparing to go out, the neighborhood chief reported it to the police, the bear moved toward nearby rice fields, and it was gone by the time police arrived.
