At around 05:45 on May 20, 2026, an adult bear was sighted near Enkoji temple in Sannocho, Morioka City, and a passerby called emergency services. According to local residents the bear moved from a parking lot near the temple toward Shiekamachi; sightings have continued in the area, prompting notifications to a school and the postponement of a planned road race.
