Around 18:40 on May 21, a woman in her 60s at home spotted a bear about 1 meter long in a field in Takasaki, Gojome-machi, Akita Prefecture (Takasaki aza Suzumedate Shimokawara). According to the Gojome police, the bear was about 10 meters from a nearby house, and the police have warned residents to be cautious.

The driver said that if it had been dark they might have collided, and prefectural police report there have been three vehicle collisions with bears this year.
