Around 18:40 on May 21, a woman in her 60s at home spotted a bear about 1 meter long in a field in Takasaki, Gojome-machi, Akita Prefecture (Takasaki aza Suzumedate Shimokawara). According to the Gojome police, the bear was about 10 meters from a nearby house, and the police have warned residents to be cautious.

On the night of November 16, 2025, near a private house in Gojome Town, Akita Prefecture, a female Labrador (about 1 m long) was attacked by a bear and found dead with bites to its lower body and legs. In the early hours a few days later, a bear weighing about 130 kg was captured in a box trap; it is believed to have been seeking the dog as food and searching the area repeatedly.
