On May 24, 2025, a single bear about 70 cm in length was found near a residential area in Toyomachi 1, Shibata City and was captured around 10:00 AM after city officials, the Shibata police, and a hunters' association kept watch. No injuries were reported; the capture site was about 600 meters from JR Shibata Station, with bamboo groves and irrigation channels nearby.
