In Saeki Ward, Hiroshima City, sightings of an animal believed to be a bear were reported repeatedly from the night of the 13th into the morning of the 14th; at around 06:40 on the 14th a bear was seen running south near the botanical garden rotary. Police and ward officials are checking whether the sightings were of the same animal, and 10 nearby elementary and junior high schools were closed.
