At around 06:30 on April 2, 2026, a bear about 1.2 m long was sighted on a road near an apartment in Naramay, Akita City. Additionally, bears about 1 m long were reported near Akita University Tegata Campus on April 1 at 18:30 and in the Yuwa area on April 2 at 07:00; an expert suggested the bear may have been hibernating very close to residential areas.

Around 5:00 am, while driving on the new national road toward Asahikita, I saw a cub about 50–60 cm cross the road. It climbed onto the sidewalk and headed toward a residential area.
