We have heard loud grawl a few meters from us and then a loud short sound from the woods (like something was quickly running deeper into the woods). The situaton had place after it was already dark, and after we spoke to each other after a longer silence (we are guessing we scared the bear)

Spotted a bear near the 9th station of the Hisamatsu Mountain Trail. It could not descend, and four police officers were dispatched to assist and it came down.
