Around 01:45 on January 25, two bears about 60 cm long were spotted on a sidewalk in Yaotome 5-chome, Izumi Ward, Sendai; residents reported them and police patrolled the area. The bears left the scene and there were no further sightings or reports of injuries. The site is a residential area near an elementary school.

At around 04:30 on January 15, 2026, a single bear about 1 meter long was spotted in Mamisawa Park (north of Yaotome Junior High School) in Asahigaoka-tsutsumi 2-chome, Izumi Ward, Sendai, and a nearby resident reported it. Police patrolled the area but the bear had already left; no injuries or further sightings have been confirmed. Police have urged the school and local residents to be cautious.
