On January 19, 2026 at about 12:40 PM, a bear cub was sighted along the Kurobe River near Unazuki Station on the Kurobe Gorge Railway. Up to 4 sightings believed to be the same individual were reported along the left bank of the Kurobe River around Unazuki Onsen by 4:45 PM that day, and the city's wildlife damage response team and Kurobe city staff are on alert.

Around 12:40 on the 19th, a cub about 50–60 cm long was sighted on the left bank of the Kurobe River near Unazuki Station on the Kurobe Gorge Railway. There were a total of four sightings believed to be the same individual around Unazuki Onsen until 16:45 that day, and wildlife response team members, Kurobe police officers, and city staff kept watch until dusk.
