On October 31 a bear remained in a street tree in Izumi Ward, Sendai for about five hours, prompting traffic controls. The bear was ultimately captured with a tranquilizer gun — a female cub measuring 77 cm and weighing 11 kg — and no one was injured. Separate bear sightings were also reported that day in Taihaku Ward and Tagajō.
