At around 11:40 on December 17, 2025, a man in his 40s clearing snow in Shirakawa, Minami Ward, Sapporo, spotted two bears believed to be a mother and cub (about 1.5 m and 1 m long) walking toward the mountain to the north. The bears were about 50 meters from the witness and roughly 100 meters from residences; no damages have been reported and police are patrolling the area.

On the morning of the 5th, a roughly one-meter bear was seen sitting on the Tokai University Sapporo Campus in Minami-ku, Sapporo, before heading north toward the mountains. The university and the adjoining high school closed for the day for safety, and police and city officials inspected the area but found no traces.

On the afternoon of November 2 in Fujino, Minami Ward, Sapporo, a cub-sized bear (about 50–72 cm) was repeatedly sighted in a residential area. Hunters fired shots at 16:20 and 16:30 and killed one bear; the culled animal was confirmed to be a 72 cm male cub born this year.
