Around 15:40 on January 19, a upper elementary school boy walking his dog reported seeing a dark brown, bear-like animal about 1.5 meters long in the bushes near Fujino Shrine in Fujigaoka Park, Minami Ward, Sapporo. Police responded but found no footprints or droppings, and no damage to people or property has been confirmed.

At around 11:10 on December 31, a woman in her 70s on a bus reported seeing two large black animals (about 1.5 m each) eating grass in a grassland in Makomanai Minamimachi 6-chome, Minami Ward, Sapporo, and called 110. Police responded but found no trace of the animals; because the site is about 150 meters from nearby homes, police urged caution and increased patrols.

At around 11:40 on December 17, 2025, a man in his 40s clearing snow in Shirakawa, Minami Ward, Sapporo, spotted two bears believed to be a mother and cub (about 1.5 m and 1 m long) walking toward the mountain to the north. The bears were about 50 meters from the witness and roughly 100 meters from residences; no damages have been reported and police are patrolling the area.

The city found no traces but has not ruled out a brown bear.
