A cub was crying from across the stream. It couldn’t be seen. Although there was no noticeable animal odor, the cries were clearly audible at a close distance.

We were descending Mt. Jinba, when a bear ran across the hiking trail just about 50-100m in front of us. It ran away quickly. I can confirm that we were making sure to have loud conversation throughout the whole hike to warn bears.

At around 17:10 on February 3, 2026, a bear about 1 meter long was sighted by a person driving on a city road near Minori no Sato in the Nasube district of Uenohara City. The city issued warnings to residents via disaster prevention radio.
