At around 14:35 on May 9, a 50-year-old man gathering wild plants in the mountains of Kaminoyama (Shobu) was attacked from behind by a single bear and suffered serious injuries, including facial bone fractures, and was taken to hospital. The bear was reported to be about 1 meter long.
