At around 11:15 a.m. on May 13, 2026, a driver on Route 151 in Nakashitara, Toei Town, saw a bear crossing the road from the hillside toward the Ōchise River and reported it to the Shitara police station. This was the town's first sighting this year; there was a sighting in the area last autumn and another in neighboring Shitara Town in April.
