At about 07:35 on February 20, 2026, a bear-like animal approximately 100 cm long was sighted near the Yamatakatsu Line road about 250 m south of the Yamatakatsu Community Development Center in Sanwa Ward, Joetsu City. The city urged nearby residents to be cautious; subsequent patrols did not find the animal.
