At around 09:50 on April 21, 2026, a 56-year-old male police officer searching for a missing person in forested land in Yamaya, Shiwa Town, Iwate Prefecture, was bitten by a bear in the face and thigh and suffered serious injuries but remained conscious. An adult woman's body was found several tens of meters from the scene; police suspect she may have been attacked by a bear and are confirming her identity, and local hunters culled the bear.

At around 09:50 on April 21, 2026, a male police officer in his 50s searching for a missing person in a stream area of Yamanoya Nabesawa, Shiwa Town, Iwate Prefecture, was attacked by a bear and suffered bites to his face and arms. The adult female bear believed to be responsible (about 1.2–1.3 m long) was culled by hunters; an unidentified body (thought to be an adult woman) was found nearby and police are investigating identity and cause of death. A cub was also reported sighted.

The next day at the same site, a 56-year-old police officer was seriously injured with bites to his face and arms, and a woman's body possibly attacked by a bear was found nearby.
