At around 09:20 on April 17, a single bear about 1 meter long was sighted in woodland at Miyadoko-Yotsuji, Yamato Town, Miyagi Prefecture. Police patrolled the area after a report, but the bear had already left and no damage was reported. Miyadoko Junior High School is nearby, and the board of education has urged schools to be cautious.

Around 13:40 on the 18th, a passerby spotted a bear about 70 cm long walking in a rice field in Miyatoko, Taiwa Town, Miyagi Prefecture, and reported it to the police.
