On Tuesday, June 16 at around 11:20 a.m., on Route 289 in the Inhira area of Minamikurazawa, Shimogō, a witness (male in his 50s) reported that while driving from Shimogō toward Nishigō Village, he saw a bear (about 1 m in length) emerge from the mountains on the left side of the road. The bear noticed the car and returned into the mountains.

On Sunday, May 31 at around 9:20 a.m., in a forested area (Shimofutamata) of Yumoto, Tenei Village, a man in his 70s (Mr. A), a resident of Minamiaizu Town, was attacked by one bear and sustained injuries to the right side of his face and other areas. His injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

At around 17:55 on the 6th, a driver on Route 289 in Minamikurasawa, Shimogō Town, spotted a bear about 1.5 m long climbing over a roadside fence and heading into the mountain. No human injuries or property damage have been confirmed; the police are monitoring the area and have informed the Shimogō town office while urging caution.
