On Wednesday, June 17 at approximately 11:52 a.m., while on patrol in Okura, Reido area, Tadami Town, a police officer sighted one bear (about 50 cm in body length) climbing a mulberry tree beside National Route 289. The bear fled into the forested hills to the south and its subsequent whereabouts are unknown.

Around 12:50 PM on October 14, on a municipal road in Sakata, Tadami Town, the witness driving observed three bears (one about 1.5 m, one about 1.0 m, and another about 50 cm) on the road. As the car approached, the bears fled into the western mountains.
